The Beaumont School softball team went on the road and defeated Villa Angela-St. Joseph 14-8 at Humphrey Park on Monday (March 29) evening.
Beaumont jumped in front early and led 4-0 before the Vikings even came to bat.
Senior center fielder Skylar Miller started the game with a walk and she later scored on sophomore third baseman Lily Dalton’s double. Dalton and her sister Christina, the Blue Streaks catcher, both scored on senior pitcher Maggie Lindner’s two-run single.
Lindner came around to score on a single to right off the bat of senior first baseman Elise Evans.
Miller put Beaumont in front 5-0 when she touched home after a sac fly to center by Lily Dalton. Sophomore Sammy Minder scored on another sac fly, this one off the bat of Evans, and the Beaumont lead was six.
After sophomore courtesy runner Molly Manning scored on a Miller single, coach Mark Pophal’s team was in front by seven.
When Lindner left the game after four innings, her squad was in front 7-1. She gave way to freshman Lilly Jarc who retired the Vikes in order in the bottom of the fifth in what was her high school debut.
Both teams had offensive outbursts and scored seven runs in the seventh inning to decide the final margin at 14-8.
Beaumont will play its home opener on Wednesday (March 31) against Lake Catholic. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Park.
