The Beaumont School basketball team defeated Bay 53-41 in a sectional final contest played in Cleveland Heights on Saturday (Feb. 20) afternoon.
With the win, the 12-8 Blue Streaks advance to the district semifinal round. Beaumont, seeded ninth in the district, will travel to No. 6 Gilmour Academy on Wednesday (Feb. 24) for a 7:00 p.m. contest. Bay ends its season at 13-8.

Early on, it looked like the Blue Streaks could be in trouble on their home court. The Rockets led 19-12 after a quarter thanks to 11 points from Bay guard Emily Martin.
Coach Derrick Russell’s team responded with a 17-8 run in the second quarter to take a 29-27 lead into the break and won the third quarter 11-8 to take a five-point lead into the final frame.
After scoring 19 points in the first period, Bay was held to single digits in each of the final three quarters.
All of Beaumont’s points were scored by seniors playing in their final home game.
Senior Lydia Gattozzi led Beaumont with a game-high 22 points and her classmate Ally Ziegler went for 16. Elissa Letterio hit two triples, Shannon Blankenship scored five points and Tamya Edwards chipped in two buckets.
Martin led Bay with 16.
