The Beaumont School varsity basketball team snapped a short two-game losing skid with a 64-56 win over Andrews Osborne Academy on Senior Night (Feb. 1).
With the win, the Blue Streaks are now 9-7 overall while AOA slipped to 5-6.
Coach Derrick Russell’s team needed to mount a fourth quarter comeback to earn the victory as the home team entered the fourth period trailing by one, 47-46.
Senior Ally Ziegler scored 10 of her 21 points in the final eight minutes and Lydia Gattozzi went five-of-six at the charity stripe down the stretch on her way to 23 points.
AOA’s junior guard Tai Roberts led all scorers with 30 points.
It was a back-and-forth game all evening as Beaumont led 18-16 after one and 36-32 at the half thanks to a buzzer beater from senior guard Katherine Pomnean. Andrews Osborne won the third quarter by five (15-10) to take the lead but Beaumont’s seniors were too much down the stretch. The Blue Streaks doubled up the Phoenix 18-9 in the final eight minutes.
Gattozzi did a lot of the damage with 14 points in the first half and then in the second half, Beaumont went to Ziegler who turned in an identical 14-point effort in the closing half.
Senior guard Elissa Letterio hit two first half three points and her backcourt mate Shannon Blankenship added seven points. Senior Tamya Edwards added three points and sophomore Maeve Sommerfeld came off the bench and hit a bucket.
Ziegler snatched up 17 rebounds and blocked five AOA shots.
