The Beaumont School basketball team won its home opener over Padua Franciscan High School by a score of 71-54 on Saturday (Dec. 5) afternoon.
Both teams are now 1-1 overall.
Beaumont led 20-16 after a quarter and 45-31 at the break. Padua won the third period by three to make it an 11-point game heading into the final eight minutes but the Blue Streaks won the fourth by six to claim the 17-point victory.
Senior Ally Ziegler scored a game-high 24 points on 11 of 13 shooting and added 15 rebounds, 10 of which were offensive which played a huge role in the Blue Streaks scoring 21 second chance points. Ziegler’s classmate Lydia Gattozzi went for 20 points and fellow senior Elissa Letterio was the other Blue Streak in double figures as she hit three triples on her way to 11 points.
Senior point guard Shannon Blankenship chipped in seven points to go with seven assists and a team-high six deflections.
At the defensive end, senior Tamya Edwards had four steals and Ziegler blocked four shots.
Beaumont forced 22 turnovers and gave it away just 15 times itself, cutting the total number in half from the season opener at CVCA.
Padua was led by Alyssa Weber who hit five threes and finished with 23 points, nine rebounds and eight steals.
The Blue Streaks will be in action again on Wednesday (Dec. 9) at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. This is a make-up of last Wednesday’s (Dec. 2) games that were canceled due to a power outage.
