Girls Varsity Basketball · Lydia Gattozzi Commits to Canisius College

Beaumont School senior Lydia Gattozzi announced her commitment to play basketball at Canisius College on Tuesday (Nov. 10) evening.

Canisius is a Division I institution located in Buffalo, New York and the alma mater of Beaumont’s head basketball coach Derrick Russell. The Golden Griffins compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Gattozzi, a Chardon native and the daughter of Nick and Stefani Gattozzi, is coming off a junior season in which she split the North Coast League’s White Division Offensive Player of the Year award and was named special mention All-Ohio. She was also a Northeast Lakes District first team pick and scored her 1,000th career point in early February.

She has scored 1,113 points in her first three years wearing the blue and white.

As a sophomore, Gattozzi was a second team all-district pick and a first team All-NCL selection. Back in 2017-18 after her freshman campaign, she was a first team All-North Coast League performer and also earned second team Northeast Lakes District accolades before earning all-state honorable mention status.
