The Beaumont School basketball team avenged its lone North Coast League White Division loss, knocking off Cleveland Central Catholic 59-58 on Wednesday (Feb. 12) night.
With the win, the Blue Streaks finish the regular season at 13-9 overall and 5-1 in divisional play which earns Coach Russell’s team the White Division title. Cleveland Central Catholic, the two seed in the Division II Nordonia District, ends the regular season at 16-6 and 4-2 in the NCL.
Beaumont led 18-13 after a quarter and 31-30 at half. After junior Elissa Letterio’s 14 points in the third quarter, the Blue Streaks were in front 49-40 heading into the fourth but CCC fought back to take a 58-57 lead with less than 15 seconds to play.
Junior Ally Ziegler, who tied Monday’s (Feb. 10) game against NDCL down the stretch, came up clutch yet again with a baby hook to put the Blue Streaks in front. CCC called timeout and got the ball into the frontcourt but never got a shot off and the Blue Streaks escaped victorious.
Letterio finished with 22 points and Ziegler had nine.
Junior Lydia Gattozzi hit four three-pointers on her way to 19 points and senior Carly Perusek went for nine.
Central Catholic’s Chantel Barnett scored a game-high 31 points. She had 12 field goals and was 3-8 from the charity stripe.
Beaumont will open the postseason at home on Saturday (Feb. 15). The Blue Streaks, seeded fifth, will welcome 12th-seeded Streetsboro to Cleveland Heights for a game that will tip at 1:00 p.m.
Tickets are $7 for adults and senior citizens and $5 for students. No passes of any kind will be accepted.
Postseason prices for the sectional and district rounds are set by the Northeast District Athletic Board.
