The Beaumont School basketball team defeated Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, 56-54, on Monday (Feb. 10) night.
With the win, the Blue Streaks improved to 12-9 overall while the Lions dipped to 11-9.
Junior Ally Ziegler led all scorers with 19 points – 13 of which came in the second half. Beaumont trailed by three down the stretch and Ziegler’s bucket and converted free throw on the and-one deadlocked the game at 54 with less than 13 seconds to play.
The Blue Streak defense came away with a steal and senior Mia Mlynek tossed it ahead to classmate Carly Perusek who was fouled with four-tenths of a second remaining. Perusek, who finished with 14 points, calmly drilled both tosses to make it a 56-54 final.
Beaumont led 15-14 after a quarter but NDCL won the second quarter 23-16 to cut info the deficit. After the Lions won the third period, they led 41-40 heading into the last period before Beaumont was able to snatch the victory down the stretch.
The Blue Streaks will conclude the regular season on Wednesday (Feb. 12). The JV team is hosting Perry at 5:30 p.m. before the 7:00 p.m. varsity game against Cleveland Central Catholic.
The winner of the Beaumont/CCC game will win the North Coast League White Division outright.
