Girls Club Crew · @Beaumont_Crew Having a Solid Fall Season

Update from Beaumont School Club Crew Coach Dave Yormick

October 18, 2019

The Beaumont School Club Crew Team is just past the halfway point and it has been a busy fall season. Since starting from scratch last fall with 11 rowers, the team has experienced quite a bit of growth in 12 months.

Through a lot of hard work from our parents and support from our boosters, we have been able to raise funds and now own one 8+ boat, two 4+s, a coxbox, 18 oars and have grown to a team of 18 rowers! We have accomplished quite a bit in a short time.

We kicked off the season at the Head of the Cuyahoga (HOTC) in September. One of the biggest highlights of this regatta was having a Beaumont Crew Alumnae 8+ rowing in the Recreation 8+ event. They placed fifth after just a couple of practices on the water and most of the women have not rowed in 15+ years. It was a great way to have the past meet the present.

Thank you to Megan Quesada, Tori Masiella, Valerie Fecko, Beth Mitchell, Colleen Connell, Rachel Hummel, Lauren Smith and Kasey O’Reilly for racing with us at the HOTC.

At the HOTC we had some strong finishes with the V4+ placing 13th in the field of 20 teams, N8+ eighth of 13 and this was with some of the crew rowing three races during the day.

Next up was a trip to Pittsburgh for the Head of the Ohio. It was a beautiful day and the first time we have attended this regatta.  The novices had an impressive day with the N8+ coming in sixth of 18 boats and the N4+ taking 11th of 16. The Ltwt. 4+ placed fifth and the V4+ placed 11th out of 34 boats in their race.

There was not time for rest as we shuffled off to Buffalo for the Head of the Niagara and Wright Regatta the next weekend. It was a blustery day with strong winds and choppy water. The challenging conditions were something we usually don’t see on the Cuyahoga River and the crews had trouble adjusting.

While we did not place as well as we wanted to, our young team gained valuable experience rowing in adverse conditions.

We are also excited to be racing in the Head of the Charles in Boston on October 20th. Our Youth 4+ will be racing against 84 other teams in this event.  here are over 10,000 athletes participating in this two-day event and we are one of a handful of teams representing Cleveland.

The four will be coxed by sophomore Khaela Tierce and rowed from stroke to bow by junior Lizzie Kohler, junior Ella Lisac, sophomore Lauren Harmat and senior Alayna Sturgill. The alternate is sophomore Kate Auletta.

We will finish our fall season on October 26th at the Blake Haxton Regatta in Columbus.

Thank you to all of parents, alumnae, friends, family and boosters who have helped us to grow and establish this team again at Beaumont.
