The Beaumont School varsity volleyball team went on the road and defeated Villa Angela-St. Joseph in the North Coast League opener on Thursday (Aug. 29) night.
Beaumont won the first set 25-23 before dropping the second to the Vikings, 25-22. Coach Pat Royer’s team turned it around and won the final two sets 25-19 and 25-16.
With the win, the Blue Streaks improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the NCL. The lone loss came at the hands of defending Division II state champion Holy Name.
Junior Darby Leininger led the Blue Streaks with 15 kills while sophomore Alycen Radolovic (nine kills) and junior Ally Ziegler (eight kills) had big contributions on the offensive end.
Beaumont’s setters had another strong night. Junior Sarah Yohann was credited with 23 assists, 11 digs and a pair of aces while sophomore Grace Salata chipped in 16 assists, nine digs and three kills.
Junior Bella Peroni led the defense with 27 digs.
The volleyball program is heading to Wooster High School for a tri-match at all three levels on Saturday (Aug. 31) morning.
Our freshmen and JV will start simultaneously at about 11:00 a.m. while varsity should get underway at about 11:30 a.m. The Blue Streaks will battle Perry before host Wooster.
The one-way bus will leave Beaumont at 8:30 a.m.
