The Beaumont club crew team kicked off its spring regatta season this past weekend at the Dillon Lake Sprints in Nashport, Ohio. It was a beautiful day for racing and this was the first race ever for seven of the rowers.
The coxed fours started the day with two boats entered. The first four to race had veteran coxswain Maddie Roth steering the boat with four newcomers. Stroke was Joelle Kratzert, three was Brigid McCarron, two was Sam Zullo, and bow was Kate Auletta.
They were off to a good start until an equipment issue caused the seat to pop off leaving Zullo no choice but to row with body angle most of the race. It was a disappointing to have equipment breakage but the crew was in good spirits and not that far off the pace.
The second four raced in its recently purchased Vespoli 4+ and commanded by veteran coxie Khaela Tierce, with newbies Anna Farrington at stroke and Ella Lisac in three seat. The veterans of Lauren Harmat in two seat and Alayna Sturgill in bow rounded out the lineup. The boat had a great race and finished third in their flight and just missed the medal podium by coming in fifth out of 12 boats overall.
Last up for the day was the Novice 8+. Ava Maslowski got her debut in three seat and this was another exciting race with the eight finishing third in their flight. Overall, they finished eighth out of 10 with the prior flight being a very fast heat.
With most of the team only being on the water for a few weeks, it was a great showing for our young team.
Next up, the Blue Streaks will travel to Orchard Lake, Mich. to compete in the St. Mary’s Prep Laddie Cup on May 4th.
Great job ladies … and go Blue Streaks!
