The Beaumont School varsity basketball team went to Slavic Village and won a 70-67 thriller over Cleveland Central Catholic on Wednesday (Dec. 12) night.
Junior guard Mia Mlynek’s three-pointer with about eight seconds left decided the final outcome.
With the win, the Blue Streaks extended their winning streak to five straight and improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the North Coast League. CCC dips to 1-5 overall after dropping its league opener.
Beaumont led 36-23 at the half but the Lady Ironmen won the third quarter by five (22-17) to cut into the deficit. CCC had a late lead before Mlynek hit a jumper to give Beaumont a 67-66 lead.
After the home team split a pair at the free throw line, Mlynek lined up that lefty stroke and knocked down a triple right in front of the Blue Streak bench. CCC called its final timeout with :6.5 to play but the Blue Streaks came up with their biggest stop of the night to get out of town with the victory.
Sophomore Lydia Gattozzi scored a team-high 17 points and junior Carly Perusek added 16. Fellow junior Elizabeth Carvajal hit two threes on her way to 14 points and Mlynek finished with 11.
Chantel Barnett scored a game-high 25 for CCC.
Beaumont has little time to celebrate with a date against Saint Joseph Academy looming. The Blue Steaks will play the Jaguars on Saturday (Dec. 15) and the tripleheader starts at 10:00 a.m. on Rocky River Drive.
Varsity is slated to start in the neighborhood of 1:00 p.m.
