The Beaumont School basketball team won its home opener over Holy Name, 58-48 on Wednesday (Dec. 5) night.
With the win, the Blue Streaks improved to 3-2 while Holy Name suffered its first loss of the young year and fell to 2-1.
The Green Wave jumped in front early and took a 9-1 lead before sophomore Elissa Letterio got going and hit two triples to tie the game at nine.
Beaumont took a 12-11 lead at the end of one and carried a 28-23 lead into the break. Coach Russell’s team extended its lead by two after three quarters and then was solid down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Letterio hit five threes to finish with 15 points and junior Carly Perusek matched that total. Junior Elizabeth Carvajal scored 12 points, sophomore Tamya Edwards followed up Sunday’s 12-point, 19-rebound effort with 10 points.
Sophomore Lydia Gattozzi connected on three free throws and junior Mia Mlynek hit a big three late in the fourth that put the game out of reach.
Beaumont honored its two seniors, Brigida Erjavec and Hanna Pappas, in a pre-game ceremony. Both provided a spark on defense off the bench.
The Blue Streaks will enter North Coast League play on Saturday (Dec. 8) when Padua comes to Cleveland Heights. It’s a freshmen/JV/varsity tripleheader so the main event should start in the neighborhood of 2:30 p.m.
