The Beaumont School basketball team wrapped up the Melanie Williams Memorial Tournament with a 57-48 win over neighborhood foe Hathaway Brown School on Sunday (Dec. 2) afternoon.
With the win, the Blue Streaks improved to 2-2 on the young year. Beaumont had four games in five days to jump-start the season.
Coach Russell’s team hurried out to a 14-5 lead after a period and took a 30-19 lead into the intermission. Beaumont held a 45-35 lead after three and the Blue Streaks held on down the stretch.
Sophomore Tamya Edwards led Beaumont with 12 points and was a monster on the glass while four of her teammates all scored eight points: juniors Elizabeth Carvajal and Mia Mlynek, Edwards’ classmate Lydia Gattozzi and senior Hanna Pappas.
Junior point guard Carly Perusek had five points and a handful of beautiful dimes that set up teammates all afternoon. Sophomore guard Elissa Letterio hit a three and finished with five points and senior guard Brigida Erjavec provided a spark and four more bench points.
Jai Duval hit three triples and led Hathaway Brown with a game-high 20 points.
Beaumont will play its home opener on Wednesday (Dec. 5) when Holy Name pays a visit to Cleveland Heights. The JV game starts at 5:30 p.m. with varsity slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
Its CYO Night so all fans who wear their CYO uniforms will be admitted free of charge.
