Beaumont School has named Elizabeth “Birdie” Wargo its new head soccer coach, Athletic Director Tim Ertle announced Sunday (July 22) afternoon.
Wargo starred at nearby Hathaway Brown School before attending the University of Cincinnati on a soccer scholarship.
She was a four-year starter at Hathaway Brown and was a part of two Division II state championship teams. In 2007, she started as a freshman on a Blazer team that finished 20-3-1 while capturing the state’s top prize. She was selected as HB’s Most Valuable Player after her team went to the Final Four in her sophomore season and repeated as the team’s MVP in 2009 when the Blazers won their second title in three seasons.
After missing her senior season due to injury, Wargo went to play in the Big East. She lettered as a freshman after appearing in 13 matches in 2011 before another injury ended her playing career. At this time, she became a student coach for Michelle Salmon.
Since 2013, Wargo has coached for former HB coach Dennis Weyn at the Weyn Soccer Group. She currently coaches for Ohio Premier Futbol Club and has spent the past two seasons as a varsity assistant/head JV coach at Cleveland Heights High School.
Wargo will greet players and parents at the Fall Sports Meeting which is being held at Beaumont on Monday (July 23) night.
