Girls Varsity Basketball · Beaumont Defeats Trinity in Overtime, 54-48

The Beaumont School varsity basketball team went on the road and defeated Trinity in overtime on Wednesday (Feb. 7) night. Beaumont left Garfield Heights with a 54-48 come-from-behind win.

With the victory, the Blue Streaks improved to 6-13 on the year while Trinity slipped to 6-12.

Freshman Lydia Gattozzi led all scorers with 24 points with eight of her points coming in the final four minutes Sophomore Mia Mlynek scored 11 while juniors Brigida Erjavec and Hanna Pappas both went for six.

Freshman forward Tamya Edwards scored two big buckets in the third quarter and her classmate Elissa Letterio hit a big three in the fourth quarter to close the Blue Streak scoring.

Beaumont led 11-9 after one but trailed by a hoop (22-20) at the break after Trinity won the second quarter 13-9.

The Blue Streaks outscored the Trojans 10-5 in the third period to take a three-point lead into the final stanza but then the Trojans caught fire and the home team jumped in front 42-35 late in the fourth.

Gattozzi had six points in the final eight minutes and the big Letterio three gave the Blue Streaks some life as they scratched and clawed their way back by closing the fourth period on a 9-2 run.

In the four-minute extra period, Gattozzi scored eight points and Mlynek connected on both of her attempts from the charity stripe to preserve the victory.

Beaumont will host its final home game of the season on Saturday (Feb. 10) when Archbishop Hoban comes to Cleveland Heights. The JV game will tip at 1:00 p.m. and the varsity game should start at about 2:30 p.m.

NOTE: The Beaumont JV team defeated the Trojans 37-26 thanks in large part to junior Mackenzie Pestotnik who scored 23 points.
