After a sluggish start, Beaumont got into gear and knocked off West Geauga 64-46 in Wednesday’s (Jan. 17) non-league get-together in Cleveland Heights.
With the win, the Blue Streaks improve to 5-7 on the year.
The Wolverines led 16-10 after the opening stanza before Beaumont used an 18-point second quarter to jump in front 28-25 at the break. Coach Derrick Russell’s team won the third quarter by 12 (19-7) to widen its lead to 15 after three and then kept a strong pace in the closeout final period to walk away with an 18-point win.
Sophomore guard Mia Mlynek hit Beaumont’s lone three-pointer of the night and was six of seven at the charity stripe on her way to a career-high 21 points.
Freshman Lydia Gattozzi went for 18.
Juniors Brigida Erjavec (nine) and Hanna Pappas (seven) combined for 16 points while freshmen Tamya Edwards and Elissa Letterio joined sophomores Sabrina Fabec and Kendall Toppin as Blue Steaks who scored two points.
Freshman guard Shannon Blankenship had Beaumont’s other point.
The Blue Streaks are home again on Saturday (Jan. 20) as Padua Franciscan will pay a visit. Beaumont’s freshmen team will host Brush at 11:30 a.m. before the JV/varsity doubleheader against the Bruins tips at 1:00 p.m.
