CLEVELAND HEIGHTS – The Beaumont School varsity swimming and diving team won its North Coast League opener over Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin by a score of 119-61 on Friday (Dec. 22) night.
With the win, the Blue Streaks improved to 2-1-1 on the young year.
Layah Hodges and Marissa Perlatti went one-two in diving to help the team score. After improving her diving score by more than 50 points from last Tuesday’s tri against Laurel and Hathaway Brown, Hodges dropped 15 seconds in the 100 Fly to take fourth.
Perlatti also improved her diving score and then came back with a best time in the 100 Breast.
Other highlights were Audrey Zorman winning the 200 IM and 500 Free in personal best times and Sophie Eyerman placing second in the 50 Free after breaking the 30-second barrier with a time of 29.27.
Beaumont also won all three relays.
After a quick turnaround, the Blue Streaks responded in a big way with a first place finish at the Ted Arnold Heights Holiday Relay Meet which was held at the brand new Cleveland Heights High School on Saturday (Dec. 23) morning.
Danielle Christian set a pool record in the 50 Free and Zorman established a new pool record in the 200 Free.
The 200 Free Relay quartet of Christian, Meghan Kessinger, Maria Jones and Katie McGreal also set a pool record. Beaumont’s other pool record came in the 200 Medley Relay with a team of Christian, True Robinson, Jones and McGreal.
Other relays that placed first were the 200 Breast (Christian, Robinson, Frankie LaMalfa and Zorman), 200 Back (Kessinger, McGreal, Gianna Velotta and Jones) and the 500 decrescendo (Zorman, Kessinger, Velotta and LaMalfa).
Beaumont is idle from competition until next Saturday, Dec. 30. The Blue Streaks will compete in the Euclid Invitational in the morning before hosting Fairview and West Geauga at 2:00 p.m. at Hathaway Brown.
