Girls Varsity Basketball · Beaumont Defeats Lake Catholic in NCL Opener, 55-52

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS – The Beaumont School varsity basketball team beat Lake Catholic 55-52 in the North Coast League Opener for both teams on Saturday (Dec. 23) afternoon.

Beaumont is now 3-2 overall and three-for-three at home.

The Blue Streaks led 22-16 after eight minutes and took a 33-28 lead into the break. Lake Catholic won the third quarter by a single bucket (10-8) to make it a 41-38 game heading into the final frame but the Blue Streaks held on to their three-point lead.

Sophomore Mia Mlynek led Beaumont with 13 points while freshman guard Elissa Letterio hit three triples on her way to 11 points. Junior guard Brigida Erjavec was the third Blue Streak in double figures with 10 points and freshman Lydia Gattozzi, the team’s leading scorer, chipped in nine.

Junior Hanna Pappas scored seven points and sophomore guard Kendall Toppin went for five.

Rose Ashdown led the Cougars with 23 points.

Beaumont is idle until next weekend’s Laurel School Gator Classic. The Blue Streaks will play the Gators at 6:30 p.m. on Friday (Dec. 29).
