Girls Varsity Track · Track & Field finishes 3rd at District Championships

The OHSAA Division II District Tournament wrapped up Saturday for the Blue Streaks at Perry High School. The day ended on a high note with the team tying for 3rd place overall!

Some highlights of the tournament began on day 1 with 2nd place finishes by the 4x800m relay and high jumper, junior Danielle Christian, with 2nd place finishes to punch their ticket to the Regional Championships. The momentum carried into day 2 with a 1st place finish by senior Reba Bartram to defend her title in the 400m dash, a 2nd place finish by sophomore Ashley Rulison in both the 1600m and 3200m run, and a gutsy performance by freshman Addison Ciecierski with a 3rd place finish in the 3200m run and a season’s best time! Freshmen Mia Mlynek and Hannah Heathcote also ran seasons bests in the 800m run, along with fellow freshman Anna Farrington in the 1600m run.

Senior Layah Busbee had a spectacular day with 2nd and 3rd place finishes respectively in the 100m Hurdles and the 300m Hurdles. Busbee also joined her teammates on the regional qualifying 4x200m relay, and contributed to an exciting performance by the 4x400m relay, anchored by Bartram to beat out Gilmour Academy, and just edge out Perry High School at the line for a 2nd place finish!

The team heads to the Regional Championships this week at Austintown Fitch High School to continue the push to Columbus. For complete results of the district tournament, click here.
