Andrews Osborne Academy
Straight off its golden racquet victory, the Beaumont Tennis team rolled into Andrews Osborne Academy with a new sense of confidence. It was an unusually warm day for the first day of autumn and coach decided to sit his top 2 singles players and bring up Amanda Desamito and Cassie Patey. Asked why he chose those 2, he said: “It was a last minute decision, and since JV played the day before, I decided to pick 2 girls with the least smelly uniforms”. Since it was a long van ride to AOA this proved to be a brilliant strategy. This match featured a number of debuts: Sydney Smith playing 1st singles, Maria Mazzurco and Ming Wei Patrick playing their first varsity singles matches. Sydney and Ming Wei fought hard but fell in straight sets. Maria showing an intense focus and determination rolled to a straight set victory. Asked what made her so focused today, she responded with a blank look then looked at her hand and said “I can’t believe I chipped a nail”. Cassie Patey playing with a sugar buzz after downing her slushy right before the match teamed up with Amanda Desamito and rolled to a straight set victory. Elzada Alvaranga and Diamond Brooks also rolled to a straight set victory giving Beaumont the 3-2 victory. The van ride home was interesting as Cassie Patey was determined to get another slushy and Diamond lobbied for a new line up of putting herself in every position on the court.
